Net Metering

Net Metering is the regulatory ability to get a credit for excess electricity you generate with a solar power system through your utility meter. Exact provisions vary with each state, but the effect is to allow you to generate excess power during the day and then use your energy credit at night without the need to install batteries on the property. This ensures you can further reduce your electricity bills even when the sun's gone down.
